The mela will focus on preventive health and access to affordable healthcare this year

New Delhi, 21st October: Statistics from the WHO indicate that about 61% of mortality in India can be attributed to non-communicable diseases such as problems, cancer, and diabetes. What exacerbates this is the fact that many are not aware of the risk factors or the importance of timely diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Many of these diseases are silent killers and strike unexpectedly.

In light of this, the 25th MTNL Perfect Health Mela 2018 will have free health checkup camps. People with risk factors and others as well can avail a checkup to understand whether they have any underlying health condition. They will also gain knowledge on how to ensure that they stay away from diseases and lead a healthy life. The mela is a unique amalgamation of knowledge and entertainment

Speaking about the initiative, Padma Shri Awardee, Dr K K Aggarwal, President, HCFI, said, “The Heart Care Foundation of India (HCFI) has always been committed to the motto of affordable healthcare for all irrespective of their economic status – which is also the theme for the Perfect Health Mela this year. Apart from free health checkups at the Mela, we will also be conducting workshops on healthy diet patterns, living a stress-free life, and preventing the misuse of antibiotics to avoid becoming resistant to them. We invite one and all from Delhi/NCR to come and avail health checkups.”

he Mela will also undertake campaigns on two issues – “Indoor air pollution” and “Make in India” – to raise awareness on the fact that indoor air pollution can affect health as much as outdoor pollution; and to realize the goal of affordable healthcare through the Make in India for Cure in India movement.

Adding further, Dr Aggarwal, who is also the Group Editor-in-Chief of IJCP, said, “The Mela will also showcase entertainment programs, lifestyle exhibitions, lectures, workshops, CPR training, inter-school competitions (Harmony and EcoFest), a unique competition for specially-abled children (Anmol), and inter-college competitions (National Youth Fest). Entry to the Mela is free for all. Join us as we celebrate the silver jubilee celebrations of the Perfect Health Mela.”
